Sphatika Bhasma, or Shubhra Bhasma, is a type of medicine made from Alum. It is a white powder made by processing and heating a substance called Alum using a specific Ayurvedic method. Sphatika Bhasma has been traditionally used in Ayurveda because it has many healing properties.
In Ayurveda, Sphatika Bhasma is thought to have properties that help with reducing bleeding, balancing body fluids, and balancing a specific type of body energy called Pitta.
The main ingredient in Sphatika Bhasma is Alum, which is a type of chemical called Potassium Aluminum Sulfate. Alum is a substance that you can’t see and can dissolve in water.
Cleaning (Purification): The first thing to do is to clean the alum. To do this, mix a certain amount of alum in water until it dissolves. Mix it thoroughly until any dirt or other unwanted substances sink down to the bottom. Slowly pour the clear liquid out, but make sure not to include the solid particles at the bottom.
Grinding: The clean alum is crushed into a very fine powder using a tool called a mortar and pestle. This fine powder will be processed more to make Sphatika Bhasma.
Heating: To heat the powdered alum, we put it in a clay pot made for Ayurvedic purposes. This pot is warmed up on a small fire.
Ignition: Starting slowly, the temperature goes up, and the alum powder catches fire. This process includes heating the powder in a controlled way, and the powder will begin to change color.
Cooling: Once the vessel is started, it is left to naturally cool down. The alum powder turns into a gray-white ash when this happens.
Burning Many Times: The process of heating and cooling is done many times to make sure the alum is completely burned and turned into ash. You might need to do this process multiple times, usually seven times, to get the quality you want for Sphatika Bhasma.
Pulverization: Pulverization is a process where the ash is crushed into a fine powder using a special tool called a mortar and pestle.
Separation: The ash in powder form is sieved to make sure that all particles are the same size.
Storage: The finished Sphatika Bhasma is kept in a clean, sealed container, in a place where it won’t get wet or be exposed to direct sunlight.
Dosage
For adults: The suggested amount is between 125 and 500 milligrams. Take it two or three times a day, after eating. You can have it with honey, sugar, or sharbat banafsha, or as advised by a doctor.
For kids: The recommended amount of medicine for children is between 65 and 250 milligrams.
