Haritaki Khand is a polyherbal Ayurvedic medicine. It is a traditional Ayurvedic preparation and the main drug used is Haritaki. The composition of the medicine includes medicinal herbs that support the digestive system. This medicine improves digestion and absorption. As it consists of the herbs Harad, Amla, Coriander, Indian senna, Mishti, it is a good purgative. The herb Haritaki Khanda purifies the body and removes the harmful substances. Since it is prepared from herbs, it does not have any side effects when taken at the prescribed dose.
Haritaki Khand Uses and Benefits
- It can be used in the form of decoction, powder, and paste. It can be applied both internally and externally.
External use:
- A cooked mixture of Haritaki Khand can be used to clean wounds.
- The mixture is also used as a gargle to clean the mouth and throat.
- Washing piles with a Haritaki Khand mixture helps manage bleeding.
- Applying Haritaki paste on boils promotes faster healing and reduces the burning sensation.
Internal use:
- Haritaki Khand is administered to enhance digestion and manage vomiting.
- The decoction and powder of Haritaki Khand are used to lower fever.
- Haritaki Khand can be applied as a toothpowder, providing strength to the gums.
- It is used as an expectorant and is administered in diseases such as cough, rhinitis, and dyspnea.
- Its mixture helps reduce oedema and inflammation.
- It acts as an immune stimulant and is prescribed in conditions when the immunity of a person becomes decreased.

Easy Methods to Use Haritaki Khand at Home
There are many methods by which you can use this herb at home. They have been given as follows:
- Haritaki Khand can be chewed if indigestion persists.
- For Vomiting: Haritaki khand with honey can be used.
- You may take 2-5 grams of Haritaki Khand each day, as it will aid in the expulsion of phlegm and be effective for severe cough.
- To prepare the mixture, use Harad, Amla, Coriander, Indian senna, Mishti. Optionally, add sugar or honey. Consume in small amounts at intervals of a few minutes. It assists in alleviating cough and benefits those with bronchial asthma and bronchitis.
- Take 3-6 grams of Haritaki khand, add an equal amount of sugar, mix thoroughly, and take it twice daily after meals. It facilitates improvement in digestive capability.
- Use 2-5 grams of Haritaki khand mixed with a teaspoon of honey. It also helps manage urinary problems along with fever cases.
- Mix equal proportions of Haritaki and ginger root powder and ingest 1. 5 grams to improve digestion. Alternatively, you can take a mixture of 2 grams of Haritaki Khand, 1 gram of ginger root, and jaggery for assuaging indigestion.
- This herb works as an aphrodisiac. Mix 5 grams of Haritaki, and 1 gram of rock salt, and fry them with castor oil and 50 ml of cow’s urine. Make this medicine till only oil is left in the pan. Strain that oil and use it with lukewarm water in case of less semen discharge. It helps to increase the production of semen.
- For weak immunity, Haritaki mixture with aniseed, pomegranate fruit peel, babul bark, and Indian gooseberry is to be taken in a dose of 20-30 ml twice a day. It will make the immunity strong.
Be Cautious While Taking
Haritaki Khand is not recommended for thin, dry, malnourished, acute feverish, and Pitta and Vata body type people. Additionally, it is not advised while pregnant or nursing. It is best to take Haritaki only after consulting a healthcare professional.
